Enormous jump in unique people hitting the RSS in the last day or so. Hi, all you unique people! Make yourselves at home!

Back from vacationing now, a bit road weary but better for it all, I think. And of course, it's time to get to doing some recording after using up all my buffer. :)

Ha! All recorded and edited through the end of June. Just need to do the advance posts (and as I say, I actually will have net access, so even that's not vital -- we'll see.) If I'm not careful, I'll get good at doing these...

Sorry about this being later than I thought. All's back together here at the home office (redoing a wireless router configuration from memory, what fun!) The end chatter on this one has a first run at adding some information about supporting TWT -- tomorrow's will be a little smoother there (I hope.) Comments, as always, more than welcome!

Well, I totally have a new excuse for today's TWT being late -- our power went out so authoritatively last night that we -- pardon the techese -- lost our DHCP lease so the address of our home network changed for the first time in ages and okay in short I've spent all morning cleaning up the virtual mess. So this evening I'll get you a new reading.

Thanks for all those who've given input in the donation question, by the way. As you can see, I've gone ahead and enabled a paypal link for now.

Acts 2:1-21

Filed by Random @ 08:33 CDT

Well, okay.

You may have already listened to today's podcast, and heard my request that you come read this. Or maybe you haven't, in which case, well, I'm glad you're reading this, anyway.

I am wrestling with the problem of operating expenses. Keeping the site going is not hideously expensive, and I have been paying for it out of my own pocket, and I am not here to say that I resent doing so, not at all. However, I am not unaware of the quality problems I have, and while -- as Craig has been explaining very nicely recently on his Behind the Scenes podcast, which you should check out -- it is true that I can improve on things for not a huge deal of money, it is, nevertheless, money, and being single income two kids now, I have to pay attention to these things, which is why I haven't rushed out and bought an iRiver so I can go do my recording somewhere nice and quiet and so forth.

On the other hand, there are a few guidelines I have taken very seriously when doing this particular podcast. The first is that it not be used to make money for businesses. That would, to me, be inappropriate. Consequently, you will note the lack of ads on the website and in the podcast. Secondly, it shouldn't be used to line my pockets or in general buy me unrelated luxuries; that, too, seems inappropriate. There again, thus the lack of ads for revenue or whatever else. On the other hand, I don't see a problem accepting contributions to feed the project, and indeed, the new headset I have, for better or worse, was donated.

So what I'm thinking of doing is putting up a Paypal donation jar. If everyone tossed a buck in it, I'd have enough to get an iRiver and a higher end headset and probably still have enough to cover the site cost for at least a few months. If there are other ways I can improve the podcast, I'll spend remaining money on that. If there's not, I will immediately remove the donation links. That's the best compromise I can come up with. What I want to know is what you, the listeners, think about it. Again, I don't want to load myself up on toys, here. (I would love to do that with a podcast at some point, mind you. Just not THIS podcast!) I just want to do the best podcast I can (and hopefully attract more people to listen), and it may be that y'all can help with that. On the other hand, if you think it's better that I stick with the level that I can manage now, then I can do that, too.

Please, let me know what you think. And enjoy today's podcast.

Sorry if this one seems a bit rushed; if so, it's because it is -- I'm actually away all Saturday and, well, anyway.

Is Audacity truly the best software solution without breaking the bank? I'd like to know. I have a hardware mixer that I've never gotten to do anything useful for me. Sigh. Well, anyway.

Wow, where to begin?

First, thanks to the guys at syndic8.com for listing me as a featured feed out of the blue -- and thanks, Jeff, for your extremely kind comments. This was just the morale boost I needed at just the right time.

And because of that boost, I've done some housekeeping I'd been meaning to do. Check out the new link for TWT's entry at Podcast Pickle, plus a repaired one for Podcast Alley (thanks as always to Craig at the Godcast Network for the gritty details on how to do that.) I've also added a one-click link to add TWT to your list at PodNova, a fairly new service for handling (and even, if you wish, listening to!) your podcast subscriptions via the web with a nice downloading client for multiple platforms. (Thanks, guys, I told you I'd check it out, and now I'm using it!)

Behind the scenes, I've been meaning for months to somehow make use of feedburner.com to improve the feed a bit as well as get me some nicer stats. So I've done that now -- the old feed URL still works and redirects to the new feed, and, well, never mind how I did it, but it seems to be working. I'll do my best to visit various indexing sites and just point them at the new feed but I'm sure I won't get them all and I don't want to break anyone's downloading setup, so the redirect will continue to be there. (Hopefully every podcast client obeys redirects. If they don't, they really are broken.) Feel free to change yours, though; the new URL is: http://feeds.feedburner.com/TheWholeTruth

Still working on the sound. I think I'm improving it (at least, it sounds better to me.) At this point I'm not sure I can do much better other than to find a quieter room to record (which I will probably try to do more often.)

Monday's the end of John. 164 days of the Gospels and it's almost over! Time flies, huh?

Still trying to make things sound better. For all its alleged noise cancellation properties, I'm thinking the headset is picking up on ambient noise in my office more than the other one did. Anyway... I'll do what I can.

It never rains but it pours...

So my PC's hard drive totally crashed on Sunday. I'm now running on a new hard drive, and I managed to recover most files I needed, but some things I'm still piecing back together -- for instance, I lost all my Audacity settings. Consequently, the odds are the audio here won't sound the same as before. (Of course, it had just recently changed, I'm sure, due to the new headset I'd just started using.) So I apologize for any problems there, and now you know why they might happen.

Well, I was right. But the good news is this: I have a handful recorded now so it shouldn't happen again in the next few days, and hopefully I'll manage to expand my lead. I didn't want to go too far, though, because this is the first entry recorded with a new headset privately donated (and thanks much to the donor) so I could stop using the one that was falling to pieces. Feedback is welcome on how it sounds.

possible delay

Filed by Random @ 00:18 CDT

Hi, all. I don't have the June 4 TWT recorded yet and am going to be gone all day and probably until very late, so the chances are good it won't get posted until Sunday (along with Sunday's.) Sorry about that. If I can squeeze it in before leaving tomorrow morning I will, but I just thought I'd give you fair warning that it's not all that likely.

Any suggestions on tweaking the format so I don't wrestle this much with timely publication would be welcome. It's bumming me out a little.
