almost there

Filed by Random @ 20:15 CST

Well, January 1 is closing in rapidly and I have to tell you I feel pretty nervous. Fortunately the Bible is the strong part of this podcast and I'm just the messenger, so that makes me feel better. Never fear, I have nine days in the can now and I hope to have a few more before the 1st, so it's game on, definitely.

We are now listed at Podcast Alley and Podcast.net, and the GodCast mirror of TWT is listed at iPodder.org and iPodderX.com. Good to know that there's a chance for people to find us. But by all means, spread the word.

without so much spam in it

Filed by Random @ 17:00 CST

Well, I guess I've hit a milestone -- I had to delete three spam comments today from this site. Consequently, I have changed the commenting permissiosn a bit -- if I haven't previously approved a comment from you, it'll have to wait for my approval. If that gets to be too much hassle, well, we'll see. So it goes.

Hope everyone had a good day yesterday, whether observing Christmas or otherwise; my family and I certainly did. Unfortunately we're mostly struggling with colds or something today, and I'm watching carefully that I don't make my voice unusable -- I want to get further ahead in readings before January 1.

EDIT: Of course, it treated our friend the spammer as previously authorized, so I've had to delete more spam. Thus comments are now entirely moderated, at least until I sort things out.

Merry Christmas, everybodeh! For Christmas Eve, I got the gift of getting the first four days of TWT totally "in the can" and ready to roll in a week. That's a great present from myself to myself! See you soon, and may this day and all that follow treat you well!

Hey, it's a day full of news! I.C.M. Raw, the Independence Christian Music news podcast and GodCasting neighbor, gave us a little promo in today's news, so thanks to Rick Wezowicz for that, and the rest of you check out I.C.M. Raw.

Now that's cool! Thanks, Craig!

preparations

Filed by Random @ 12:26 CST

I think I'm getting the hang of this. Sort of. I have the first
five days' worth of Matthew -- basically four and a half chapters

    • recorded into their appropriate href="http://audacity.sourceforge.net">audacity projects. I'm
learning how to splice, as, well, I bobble now and again, or something
makes a sound, as my "studio" is hardly isolated. If you pay
attention to ambient sound you'll likely be able to tell when a
splice occurs, but I'm trying to keep them from being too jarring
and, well, I can only improve. :)

I've also encountered my first major complication -- winter sinus
problems. Oh well. I think it's still sounding okay. I have a
history of being too perfectionist about things to actually get
them done, but this is too important to me so it's going to get
made and I'll just learn to live with little imperfections. Builds
character, right?

Got to exchange some more email last night with Craig from href="http://www.godcast.org">GodCast but I'm not ready to tell
you everything we were talking about... a little suspense
is good for you. But he had many very useful suggestions as someone
who's been there and done that, and I pat myself on the back for
emailing him specifically to let him know about this project, since
I shudder to think what mistakes I wouldn't have avoided if I hadn't
gotten in touch with him.

Now I just have to figure out how I want to intro and outro these
things. Oh, and record at least ten more before the new year...

to work!

Filed by Random @ 20:23 CST

I'm off work from my day job until January, so now the work really begins on getting recordings done. I'm learning more about audacity all the time... the hard way.

Quick shout out to Craig Patchett of the GodCast network who's already helped me make up my mind about translations and pointed out a problem with this web site. Thanks, Craig!

Oh, one more thing, and this is kind of jumping the gun but I got it set up today so I figured I'd mention it while I'm thinking about it: I have a voicemail (and fax, for what that's worth to you) box set up at 206-888-GANG (my personal site is randomgang.com, just work with me here) in case anyone has any reason to use it.

What I've been up to as regards this site:

  • Submitted it for listing on ipodder.org, ipodderX, podcast.net, podcast alley...
  • Updated the sidebar a bit. My gmail account is there, altered a bit to try to frustrate spammers, so you'll have to edit as you go. And hey, audio comments are definitely okay by me. I love to hear that kind of thing! They won't get included on this show, but maybe if and when I start something more informal...
  • Turn on logging and set up analog so I can obsessively watch to see if anyone's listening. Once there's something more to listen to, of course.
  • Did a dry run of recording the January 1 and 2 readings. The results are okay, but I definitely need to improve my "studio" -- which currently is, well, a bed and a laptop. I use the bedsheet as a windscreen. I'm not kidding. It's hard on my back and hard to keep things stable and I'd better do better, and I will. Still, I'm learning a lot about using audacity by experimenting so none of it's wasted effort.

That's it for now! Just an update on what I'm doing. Suggestions on where else to bother listing the site are welcome, as well as any other chatter you want to send my way. January 1 is coming up soon, so don't give up on me -- I'm on it!
